The American Football fans at United Leeds Endeavours stayed up into the early hours of the morning on Monday to watch Alabama Crimson Tide drown the LSU Tigers in the BCS National Championship in New Orleans.
Though an earlier match between the bitter rivals back in November had seen LSU nudge out Alabama with a 7-6 overtime victory, Head Coach Nick Saban never doubted that his team could win when it mattered. What had been expected to be a close match was like watching a tidal wave hit. Alabama brushed aside LSU, in their home state, in a thrilling 21-0 victory.
The loss was an embarrassing one for Les Miles and his team, widely believed to be one of the strongest teams in College football history, they suffered the only shutout (gaining no points) in the history of bowl games in the BCS era. An associate from United Leeds Endeavours remarked, “Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron was just too good for them and the Alabama defense was out of this world”
You might ask what a direct marketing company based in Leeds city centre is doing supporting a university American Football team? It appears that the managing director of United Leeds Endeavours has always been a huge American Football fan, “The complexity, the teamwork and skill that goes into a game like American Football is something that appeals to me. Very much like business it is full of strategy and planning.” The director added “I used to follow the Florida Gators but a business associate started to get me interested in his team, Alabama, and I realized that with a head coach like Nick Saban, this was a team which showed incredible skill and dedication and one that I wanted to keep an eye on.
The victory saw Alabama win its 14th National Championship, more than any other team in BCS history. Head Coach Nick Saban also made history becoming the first coach ever to win 3 National Championship titles. “Coach Nick Saban would go far in whatever field he decided to settle in, he is unbelievably dedicated and passionate about his sport, his team can never practice too hard or be too prepared. His kind of work ethic is something that we pride ourselves on at United Leeds Endeavours.”
The match was particularly poignant for one of the managers at United Leeds Endeavours who was able to watch his cousin, a team equipment manager, on the sidelines. Congratulations Alabama, United Leeds Endeavours looks forwards to celebrating your 15th National Championship next year!
